Most pets will need at least one surgery during their lifetime, and their full recovery depends in large part upon the care they receive once they leave the operating table. Depending on their age, overall condition, and the type of surgery performed, there will be specific requirements for at-home and follow-up care.
At Animal Medical Hospital & 24 Hour Urgent Care, we do our part to make sure your pet receives the best care possible and that you have everything you need to support your pet during their recovery. How you care for your pet after surgery plays an enormous role in how quickly they bounce back after any procedure, big or small.
Having a pet with itchy skin can be extremely frustrating, especially if your pet is scratching or licking to the point of developing sores, bald spots, or other injuries. Getting to the bottom of why your pet is so itchy and coming up with a treatment plan is extremely important for their continued health and well being.
Allergies to pollen, dust, mold, chemicals, and food are common among animals. Although food allergies in pets are less prevalent, your veterinarian can help you determine whether or not this could be an issue for your furry companion.
Of the many things we check during your pet’s routine wellness exam, the health of their teeth and gums ranks pretty high. Even a brief peek inside gives us a basic understanding of their current oral health – and what the future might bring. Without regular teeth cleaning and at-home pet dental care, the animals we love may face serious health risks.
Committing to the Big Picture
Brushing your pet’s teeth might seem like just another chore you can push to the back burner. This is especially true if your pet is opposed to the activity. However, by introducing the act of brushing in a positive way – and rewarding your pet – they’re more likely to believe this is just another act of love on your part (and it is!).
Charlotte has a reputation for mild weather, but we’re actually the ice storm capital of America. Indeed, our winters can be extreme, but our summers also compete with record-breaking temperatures. Additionally, tornadoes, hurricanes, and even drought are all possible contenders when it comes to natural disasters in our area. Although preparing for an emergency isn’t fun, taking steps to protect your pet is absolutely critical to their safety.
Hill’s
Pet Nutrition is voluntarily recalling select canned dog food
products due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D. While
vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs, ingestion of elevated
levels can lead to potential health issues depending on the level of
vitamin D and the length of exposure, and dogs may exhibit symptoms
such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased
urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Vitamin D, when
consumed at very high levels, can lead to serious health issues in
dogs including renal dysfunction. Pet parents with dogs who have
consumed any of the products listed and are exhibiting any of these
signs should contact their veterinarian. In
most cases, complete recovery is expected after discontinuation of
feeding.
In the United States, the affected canned dog foods were distributed through retail pet stores and veterinary clinics nationwide.
No dry foods, cat foods, or treats are affected.
Pet parents who purchased the product with the specific lot/date codes listed should discontinue feeding and dispose of those products immediately or return unopened product to your retailer for a refund. For more information, please contact Hill’s via our website or at 1-800-445-5777.
Hill’s
Pet Nutrition learned of the potential for elevated vitamin D levels
in some of our canned dog foods after receiving a complaint in the
United States about a dog exhibiting signs of elevated vitamin D
levels. Our investigation confirmed elevated levels of vitamin
D due to a supplier error.
We
care deeply about all pets and are committed to providing pet parents
with safe and high quality products. Hill’s has identified
and isolated the error and, to prevent this from happening again, we
have required our supplier to implement additional quality testing
prior to their release of ingredients. In addition to our
existing safety processes, we are adding our own further testing of
incoming ingredients.
For further information, please contact Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. at 1-800-445-5777 Monday-Friday during the hours of 9am-5pm (CST) or at contactus@hillspet.com. Information can also be found at www.hillspet.com/productlist
This
voluntary recall only impacts canned dog food and primarily in the
United States. It is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration. Impacted products outside of the
United States will be subject to separate notices on the
country-specific website. If you are outside of the United
States, please check your own country’s Hill’s website for more
information.
