To help you keep fun flowing all season long, let\u2019s take a look at some summer pet safety tips! <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heat Stress and Your Pet<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/blog\/2016\/08\/preventing_heat_stroke\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hot weather<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is simply a part of life, but keep in mind the heat is especially hard on pets. They don\u2019t have the same defenses when it comes to high temps &#8211; namely, they aren\u2019t able to sweat to cool themselves down. Along with this fact is the misconception that animals tolerate outdoor extremes because, well, they\u2019re animals. However, this simply isn\u2019t true. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heat stroke is a very real threat. Thousands of cats, dogs, and other animals die each year because they get stuck in a confined space or are left in a parked car. Protect your pet in the following ways:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never leave your pet tied up outside or without shade outdoors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether it\u2019s a walk to the park or a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/blog\/2013\/12\/safe-car-travel-pets\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trip in the car<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, always keep your pet hydrated by bringing water wherever you go. Also keep plenty of bowls of clean, fresh water indoors and in the yard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offer shade when out on the ocean, boat, or lake.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Know the signs of heat stroke; treat each situation as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/veterinary-services\/emergency-critical-care.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an emergency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never leave your pet in a parked car, even in the shade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paw injuries are common during the summer. Check the temperature of the ground or other exposed areas, and outfit your pet with protective booties if they\u2019re going to be walking on a hot surface. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out and About <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not everyone wants to sit around in the air conditioning all day, every day, and pets are no different. Walks, outdoor activities, and fresh air are important to our animal companions, but what are fun, safe ideas of things you can do when temps soar?
