{"id":114,"date":"2011-01-17T01:00:11","date_gmt":"2011-01-17T01:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/blog\/?p=114"},"modified":"2011-01-17T01:00:11","modified_gmt":"2011-01-17T01:00:11","slug":"on-the-lookout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/blog\/on-the-lookout\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Lookout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Animals are very good at hiding signs of illness and weakness.\u00a0 If you think about it, it makes sense.\u00a0 Critters living out in the wild that are not at the top of their game are often called dinner.\u00a0 Our family friends are not living out in nature, however.\u00a0 It is our job to pay close attention so that we are conscious of subtle signs of problems early in their course.\u00a0 The following is a list of some obvious and not-so-obvious signs that a problem could be lurking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sustained changes in attitude or activity level<\/li>\n<li>Changes in drinking habits (increased or decreased consumption)<\/li>\n<li>Changes in appetite (increased, decreased, or absent)<\/li>\n<li>Changes in urination habits (increased, decreased, straining, blood in urine)<\/li>\n<li>Constipation or diarrhea<\/li>\n<li>Changes in sleeping habits<\/li>\n<li>Decreased vision and\/or hearing<\/li>\n<li>Changes in the appearance of the eyes<\/li>\n<li>Harder time getting around, stiffness<\/li>\n<li>Sudden weight loss or gain<\/li>\n<li>Bad breath, drooling<\/li>\n<li>New lumps or bumps<\/li>\n<li>Repeated vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Lameness, especially that lasting over 5 days or in more than one leg<\/li>\n<li>Excessive panting<\/li>\n<li>Breathing heavily or quickly while resting<\/li>\n<li>Hiding, especially for cats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you are familiar with your pet\u2019s normal habits and behavior, it becomes much easier to identify a problem.\u00a0 If you are able to draw these types of issues to your veterinarian\u2019s attention, you offer valuable information that just might help detect a problem before it becomes detrimental to your pet\u2019s health.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Animals are very good at hiding signs of illness and weakness.\u00a0 If you think about it, it makes sense.\u00a0 Critters living out in the wild that are not at the top of their game are often called dinner.\u00a0 Our family friends are not living out in nature, however.\u00a0 It is our job to pay close [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[31,15],"tags":[432,640,641,642],"class_list":["post-114","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-pet-health-wellness","category-senior-pet-care","tag-older-pets","tag-senior-pet-care","tag-senior-pet-health","tag-senior-pets"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>On the Lookout - Animal Medical Hospital &amp;
