While we are always happy to check your pet out at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/\">Animal Medical Hospital &amp; Urgent Care<\/a>, in some situations you may be able to address your shaking dog at home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reasons Dog&#8217;s Shake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Reasons for a shaking dog can run the gamut from benign to quite serious, and it can be difficult to know where your pet lies on the spectrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pet shaking may be behavioral, related to pain or other physiological causes, or may be part of an actual medical problem. Shaking can occur due to a pet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Trying to warm itself in a cold or damp environment<\/li><li>Being scared<\/li><li>Being excited<\/li><li>Experiencing pain<\/li><li>Having muscle loss or weakness<\/li><li>Experiencing effects of a toxin exposure<\/li><li>Having a seizure disorder<\/li><li>Being infected with certain diseases such as distemper virus<\/li><li>Being affected by a medical condition that causes shaking as a primary or secondary side effect<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Help a Shaking Dog<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes shaking is normal given the circumstances. If your pet is chilly, gentle warming techniques can be used. Even temperatures around 50F can be cold, particularly in a damp environment &#8211; a cozy blanket may just do the trick!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bring an excited or scared pet into a calm, safe environment to allow their adrenaline to subside. A pet who is repeatedly or often scared may need some specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/veterinary-services\/behavioral-training.html\">behavioral training with us<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some causes of shaking such as pain or seizures absolutely require medical intervention. It is important to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalmedical.net\/#contact\">come see us right away<\/a> if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You are unsure of the underlying reason for the shaking<\/li><li>The shaking does not subside with warming or calming efforts<\/li><li>Your pet has a known toxin exposure<\/li><li>Your pet is acting otherwise sick or abnormal<\/li><li>Your pet is not responsive<\/li><li>Your pet is in distress<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s always best to err on the side of caution, especially since so many problems are better treated when addressed early.
